When my dad was among the living, he purchased a car every two years. His vehicle of choice was an Oldsmobile 98. Tide is the only brand of laundry detergent my ex-husband will purchase. When I have any kind of ache or pain, I reach for Advil.

These are examples of national brands. Big corporations that spend millions of advertising dollars to maintain brand awareness. They have been in business for many years.

Yes, there are other products on the market that may do the job just as well or better than the previously mentioned brands. But, they'll never get noticed. Cause once a brand has won your loyalty. You won't purchase anything other than your chosen brand.

Mom & Pop establishments are local brands. The corner store you go to when you need to buy milk because you don't want to drive all the way to a chain grocery store. Your nail shop where you get your mani and pedi done. The hair salon or barber shop that makes you look oh so fabulous. And when the car dealership charges way too much for a simple repair. You go to a local car shop.

You trust them. They know how to take care of you. They know you by your first name. These small businesses are community staples. You and your neighbors need these shop owners just as much as they need you.

Answer this question. Are your customers loyal to your brand? If not, you have work to do.
